Ms. Correia Assunção's journey from Angola to the United States at the age of 16 marked the beginning of a transformative path filled with challenges and triumphs. Growing up amid the turmoil of civil war in Angola, she faced significant hardships, including food insecurity and constant displacement. These early experiences instilled in her a profound resilience and an ability to connect with others facing adversity. Her move to the United States brought its own set of challenges, including cultural adjustments and learning a new language, but it also opened doors to opportunities that she embraced with determination.
Ms. Correia Assunção's professional career is marked by her role as the director of the centralized eligibility office within the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance. Since 2022, she has overseen three distinct teams, each addressing critical areas such as department employee cases, special projects, funeral services, rest home cases, and support for new arrivals in the state. Additionally, she serves as a mentor co-chair within her agency. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was instrumental in fostering team unity and preventing isolation among remote workers. She emphasizes daily connections between team members to maintain a supportive work environment.
In addition to her role at the Department of Transitional Assistance, Ms. Correia Assunção is a certified mindset and empowerment coach-mentor with FlowEasy Coaching and Mentorship. She began her coaching journey in 2024, driven by a desire for personal growth and a need to reconnect with clients on an individual level. Through this venture, she has been able to leverage her life experiences to empower career-driven mothers to overcome mental barriers and achieve their potential.
Providing Ms. Correia Assunção with critical-thinking skills and a comprehensive understanding of social systems was her educational background, inclusive of a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and minor degrees in English and psychology from Newbury College, which she earned in 2005. Further enhancing her expertise, she has obtained numerous certifications, including as a Certified Life Coach from the Jay Shetty Certification School.
A commitment to continuous learning has been a cornerstone of Ms. Correia-Assunção's success, made evident through her participation in various programs focused on personal growth and business acumen. Her involvement with Tony Robbins's Inner Circle and Dean Graziosi's Mastermind Business Academy reflects her dedication to enhancing her leadership abilities and communication skills. These experiences have not only enriched her professional life but have also influenced her approach to team building and human connections.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Correia Assunção is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. Most notably, she makes donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Looking ahead, Ms. Correia Assunção envisions establishing a wellness center dedicated to women of all ages. Inspired by her caregiving experiences and a desire to create community spaces for connection and support, she aims to provide a haven where individuals can enhance their mental and physical well-being. Her solution-driven approach underscores her commitment to fostering environments in which people can thrive both personally and collectively.
