One of our graduates, Lea Weiss, shares her practical guide on how to develop your life coaching skills. Let’s read her story!

For anyone starting, what are your top 3 tips to become a life coach?

Learn to listen deeply

One of the main life coaching skill is to truly listen and hold space. Every person wants to feel seen and heard, so, as coaches, we need to listen with intention and care. We listen to what is said and what is not said. Read between the lines, and pay close attention to body language, tone, and facial expressions.

See opportunities for growth in everything

Another important life coaching skill and for growth in your personal life is to look for opportunities. You choose if you see a problem or a possibility. The ability to see transformation and growth in a presented challenge is so empowering and liberating. It will change your and your clients’ lives.

Question the status quo

The famous quote “If we do what we’ve always done, we will have what we’ve always had” is a great example of this. To reach our goals and change our reality, we need to be willing to take an honest look. We need to be present and understand why we are where we are. We aim to understand our thoughts and patterns and approach them with compassionate curiosity. Once we understand a situation deeply, we can start changing it.

What made you decide to get a life coaching certification?

I’ve always known that I wanted to make the world a better place and leave a meaningful impact. Since I was a child, I knew that I would love to work with people. I thrive on human interaction and I love connecting with others, especially helping them!I’ve been looking for true meaning and fulfillment in my life for a while. I set out to travel the world and engaged in a lot of healing modalities. After uncovering and understanding myself, the Jay Shetty Certification School opened its gates, and I immediately knew this is my purpose and the path I have to follow. It speaks right to my soul. I get to work independent of time and place, interact with amazing humans and help them grow, make an impact in the world, and contribute to humanity. I am naturally cheerful, optimistic, and forward-moving, so guiding people toward improving themselves and helping them get unstuck is a perfect fit. Overall, my personality and purpose on this planet align perfectly with my life coach certification, and I couldn’t be happier to have chosen this path.

What have been your greatest rewards from becoming a life coach?

The greatest rewards have been my clients’ transformations! It’s mind-blowing and incredible to see the exceptional growth that my clients have been going through. I deeply hold the belief that every person is resourceful and capable and has all the answers within. Seeing this resourcefulness expressed is a true blessing. The quantum leaps that my clients have made in the shortest amount of time and the solutions they’ve found to their challenges are so rewarding and fulfilling. My personal growth along the way and the lessons I am learning from them have also been an incredible journey. I love that self-development and learning are now part of my daily work schedule, and having that flexibility and growth is truly rewarding.

What is it like to be a Jay Shetty Certified Coach?

It’s the best thing in the world. I am so proud to be part of this movement to change a billion lives in such a deep, meaningful, and purpose-driven way. The school offers so much value and insight, and I am so confident in my skills and abilities because I know I’ve learned from truly great minds who have the purest intentions. In my opinion, there’s no better foundation, and it helps me show up confidently as a coach because I know I’ve gained deep awareness and timeless wisdom as well as the best techniques. The school is also very supportive, and it’s a commitment far beyond just reaching certification. I am part of a global community, movement, and support system full of purpose-driven, service-oriented, like-minded individuals wanting to serve and make an impact.

How have you found the Jay Shetty Coaching School Community?

The community is one of the best things about the school. I am part of a huge network of incredible coaches and aspiring coaches, and we all share deep values and growth. There is a huge variety of people from all age groups and walks of life, but we are all connected. And while we are at different stages in our coaching journey, I know I can always reach out to anyone in the community. It gives me a deep sense of belonging, and I feel very supported. Everyone is so kind and helpful. There are also lots of events set up and groups formed to support one another. Furthermore, there are so many free offers to choose from and so many opportunities to give, and it’s only getting better every year. The school and community truly draw in the most amazing people, and I wouldn’t be where I am without this community during the learning journey and after graduation. In my opinion, it’s one of the most valuable assets of the school and a true testament that, together, we grow and go far. Collaboration, service, and giving always win, and the collective sum is much more powerful than its parts separately.
